What is Anti-Decubitus Mattress?
An anti-decubitus mattress or bedsore mattress is a medically approved covering used for sleeping. It is recommended to prevent injuries due to friction or rubbing on the skin, especially the bones. By using anti-decubitus mattresses, we reduce the pressure on the body surface of immobile patients to prevent decubitus ulcers, which are often fatal.
Bedsore and strategies for preventing and treating the it
Pressure ulcers are a very common example of tissue necrosis. Pressure ulcers are injuries to the skin that originate in small, localized areas and other underlying tissues. It starts in a small area of skin, usually over a bony prominence, as a result of constant, unrelenting pressure, and then spreads over time. Pressure sores are caused by shear forces; Friction, humidity, and constant pressure all contribute to the development of pressure ulcers. Hospital studies show that bedsores develop in 3% to 4.5% of patients during a long hospital stay, and bedsores in 25% to 85% of patients with spinal cord injuries.
